It’s best to use a digital photo or digital copy of a standard 6″ by 4″ photo or larger. Smaller sized photos may be used in some cases.
The picture should be clear and depict what you want in the final portrait (facial expression, clothing, gestures, etc.).
Photos that show some contrast (shadows or variations in color) tend to result in nicer portraits.
More than one photo can be combined into a single painting, in some cases. The photos should depict subjects of similar scale and lighting, if at all possible.
